Light without limits

Fibre Optic Cables

Premium PMMA fibre optic cable engineered for star ceilings, pool lighting, signage, sensory environments, and architectural features. No electricity at the point of light. No heat. No compromise.

Buy exactly what you need

Sold by the metre. Cut to length.

Most fibre optic cable suppliers only sell in full rolls or pre-set kit sizes. LightEFX sells fibre optic cable by the single metre, with no minimum roll purchase required. Order 1 metre or 1,000 metres. You only pay for exactly what your project needs.

Starting from $1.16 per metre for 0.50mm bare fibre.

Why buy fibre optic cable from LightEFX?

We are an Australian manufacturer and supplier of fibre optic lighting systems, not a reseller. That means better pricing, technical support, and cable options that match your project exactly.

Per-metre pricing

No forced roll purchases. Buy 1 metre for a repair, 50 metres for a room, or 500 metres for a commercial fit-out. Same quality at every length.

Custom prefabrication

LightEFX can cut, terminate, and bundle fibre cable to your exact project specifications. Saves time on site and reduces waste.

Complete system supplier

Cable, illuminators, fittings, panels, and controls from one source. No compatibility guesswork. One supplier, one point of contact.

Australian stock, fast shipping

All cable is held in our Australian warehouse. No waiting on overseas shipments. Orders dispatched promptly for projects on deadline.

Part of the system

Fibre optic cable is only part of the picture

Every fibre installation needs a light engine, fittings, and often a control layer. LightEFX supplies the complete chain from illuminator to finished light point.

Light engines

LED illuminators from 3 W to 130 W DMX. RGB colour, white, and tuneable options.

Where fibre optic cable is specified

Fibre optic cable delivers light without electricity at the point of use, making it inherently safe for wet areas, hazardous zones, and sensitive environments.

Star ceilings

Residential, commercial, and healthcare star ceiling installations using end-emitting fibre threaded through panels or plasterboard.

Pool, spa and water features

Underwater pool floors, walls, and perimeter lighting with zero electrical risk in the water. Compliant with Australian pool standards.

Sensory environments

Tactile, safe fibre bundles and curtains for therapeutic spaces, de-escalation rooms, and paediatric environments in healthcare and education.

Signage and architecture

Edge lighting, landscape borders, illuminated lettering, and architectural feature lines using side-emitting cable in indoor and outdoor applications.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy fibre optic cable by the metre instead of a full roll?

Yes. LightEFX sells all fibre optic cable by the single metre with 1 metre increments. There is no minimum roll purchase. This is ideal for small repairs, prototyping, or projects where you need a precise length without paying for leftover cable you will not use.

What is the difference between end-emitting and side-emitting fibre optic cable?

End-emitting cable produces a point of light at the tip of the fibre. It is used in star ceilings, constellation walls, and downlight fittings where individual light points are needed. Side-emitting cable glows along its entire length, producing a continuous neon-like line of light. It is used for pool perimeters, signage, and architectural edge lighting.

Is fibre optic cable safe to use in pools and wet areas?

Yes. Fibre optic cable carries light, not electricity. There is no electrical current in the fibre itself, so there is zero shock risk at the light point. The light source (illuminator) is installed in a dry, accessible location away from the water. LightEFX side-emitting cables are also chlorine and saltwater resistant.

What diameter fibre optic cable do I need?

For star ceilings, 0.75 mm and 1.00 mm are the most common choices. They produce a realistic star effect and are easy to thread through panels. For brighter individual points, 1.50 mm to 3.00 mm gives a more prominent light. For side-emitting linear glow effects, cable diameter determines brightness. If you are unsure, contact us and we will recommend the right size for your application.

Do I need an illuminator to use fibre optic cable?

Yes. Fibre optic cable does not produce its own light. It transmits light from an LED illuminator (also called a light engine or light source). LightEFX supplies illuminators from 3W for small feature projects up to 130W DMX units for large commercial installations. All cables are compatible with our illuminator range.
