The LightWaves approach

LightWaves is the schools-focused product line from LightEFX, bringing the same sensory engineering discipline that has been delivered in hospital sensory rooms, CT scan suites and clinical environments for over a decade. It is not a startup concept. It is a proven approach to sensory environment design, now adapted for the realities of a school day.

A LightWaves room integrates StarEFX PULSE or MATRIX acoustic starlight panels as the core ceiling element, acoustic wall treatment for noise absorption, warm perimeter LED lighting for ambient control, biophilic features including green walls and natural materials, and app or touchscreen scene control so any staff member can operate the room confidently.

Every light source in the room is controlled from a single system. One tap on the touchscreen or app shifts the entire room from a regulation mode through to a calm retreat or a focused wellbeing session. The panels are lightweight, screw-fix to ceiling battens, run on low-voltage wiring, and draw between 1.2W and 5W per panel. Installation is low-disruption and can typically be completed in a day.

All products are designed and manufactured in Australia, with materials and electrical work compliant with local standards. The acoustic panels are independently tested to ISO 11654 and the substrate is fire-tested to AS ISO 9705.

What a sensory room is not

It is worth being clear about boundaries. A well-designed sensory room supports calm, regulation and recovery through environmental design. It is not a medical treatment. LightEFX does not make therapeutic claims about the room or its lighting. Colour and light are framed as design psychology, how tone and colour shape how a room feels, not as colour therapy or clinical intervention.

The room supports the work that wellbeing teams, psychologists and learning support staff are already doing. It gives them a better environment to do that work in.
