Introducing the LightEFX Shift: Why We Built a Better Desk Light
Most desk lights are an afterthought. A lamp stuck to the corner of a desk, casting uneven light across half the surface while the other half sits in shadow. They offer a single colour temperature, no zoning, and no real thought given to the person sitting under them for eight hours a day.
We built the LightEFX Shift because we believed desk lighting deserved the same care and engineering we put into our ceiling systems. A light that understands how people actually work, and how light affects their energy, focus, and comfort throughout the day.

The gap we set out to fill
When we surveyed the desk light market, we found a clear gap. Consumer desk lamps offer basic on/off or maybe a warm-to-cool slider, but they lack the output, build quality, and mounting options needed for professional environments. Commercial task lights deliver brightness, but almost none offer tuneable white with zone control, let alone CRI above 90.
No single product combined all of the things we thought mattered: tuneable white colour temperature from warm to daylight, CRI 90+ for accurate colour rendering, touch-pad zone control so you can light different parts of your desk independently, commercial-grade construction that would last in a fit-out, and a mounting system that works with any desk without permanent modification.
So we designed one.
Designed around how people work
The Shift is built on a simple idea: your desk light should adapt to you, not the other way around.
Tuneable white, 3000K to 6000K. In the morning, set it to 6000K daylight to boost alertness and focus. As the afternoon progresses, shift toward 4000K neutral white for comfortable sustained work. In the evening, drop to 3000K warm white to reduce blue light exposure and support your natural circadian rhythm. This is not a gimmick; it is the core principle of human centric lighting, and it is why the product is called the Shift.

Left: 4000K neutral white for balanced daytime work. Right: 6000K daylight for focused morning productivity.
Touch-pad zone control. The Shift’s integrated touch pad lets you control different lighting zones independently. Brighten your document area while dimming the screen zone to reduce glare, or light the full desk surface evenly. No remote, no app, no reaching for a switch, just tap the pad. Dimming runs from 0% to 100% across every zone.
CRI 90+ across the full range. Colour Rendering Index measures how accurately a light source reveals the true colours of objects beneath it. At CRI 90+, the Shift renders colours faithfully whether you are reviewing printed proofs, matching fabric samples, or simply reading. Most consumer desk lamps sit around CRI 80, a noticeable difference once you have experienced better.

Built for real desks
A desk light that only works on one type of desk is not much use. The Shift uses a split clamp fixture that grips desk edges up to 70mm thick without drilling, cutting, or permanent modification. For permanent installations, a screwfix mount base plate is available as an option. Either way, the aluminium upright and arm are solid, stable, and designed to hold position without drift.

Left: Split clamp fixture, no drilling required. Right: 50° hinged arm for precise light angle adjustment.
The 50° hinged arm lets you angle the light head precisely where you need it. Tilt it forward to flood the desk surface, angle it back for ambient fill, or set it somewhere in between. The hinge holds firmly at any position, no slow droop over time.
Two widths are available: 1395mm for standard desks (1200–1500mm wide) and 1745mm for extended workstations (1600–1800mm). Both deliver 600–650 lux at desk centre, which comfortably exceeds the AS/NZS 1680.1 standard of 320 lux for general office work.
Part of the ecosystem
The Shift is designed as part of the LightEFX Human Centric Ecosystem, the same platform that powers our StarEFX ceiling panels, EdgeLine perimeter lighting, and Altair suspended panels. While the Shift operates independently on 24V DC, it shares the same design language and lighting philosophy: put the right light, at the right colour temperature, in the right place, at the right time.
For commercial fit-outs, this means the desk-level light can complement the ceiling and perimeter systems already specified for the space. One coherent lighting approach from the ceiling to the desk surface.

Who is the Shift for?
Commercial offices and co-working spaces. Facility managers specifying task lighting for open-plan offices, hot desks, and sit-stand workstations. The clamp mount installs in seconds and moves with the furniture. Tuneable white supports workplace wellbeing programmes and Green Star interior ratings.
Home offices. Professionals who spend long hours at their desk and want light that supports focus during the day and winds down in the evening. The Shift replaces the collection of mismatched lamps that most home offices end up with. One light, full coverage, proper colour rendering.
Design studios and creative workspaces. Anywhere colour accuracy matters. Graphic designers, architects, photographers, and anyone reviewing physical samples or proofs under artificial light will notice the difference CRI 90+ makes compared to standard office lighting.
Education and healthcare. Libraries, study areas, and clinical workstations where high-quality, glare-free task lighting is essential. The low-voltage 24V DC input adds an extra layer of safety in sensitive environments.
